Waiting for the "All-Clear"

Waiting for the "All-Clear"
This piece was inspired by a preserved World War II air raid shelter sign that I saw in the Bologna, Italy city center. Seeing the sign made me intensely aware of the reality of war for ordinary people, no matter what side they were on. The woman represents to me the spirit of the Italians, forced into hiding in the darkness of the war, waiting for the signal that it was safe to return to daily life.
